At gas turbines operation intake air cleanness is a critical factor, therefore every type of gas turbine will utilize appropriate gas turbine air intake filter to remove most contaminant particles from intake air. This is to prevent fouling and deposits build up inside gas turbine compressor.

To select proper type of air filter, first thing is to select filter that has been tested and approved from authorized gas turbine manufacture. Second thing is to identify typical potential contaminants in the area where the gas turbine is operated. Depend to the environment, for example in industrial and coastal, air contaminants is dominated by very fine particle that will be impossible for conventional filter to remove. WHAT MIGHT BE THE RISKS FOR INAPPROPRIATE FILTER SELECTION ?

Air contaminant particles which is very fine will enter into gas turbine compressor and resulted in rapid reduction of performance efficiency and finally the output power of the gas turbine will decrease significantly. If the turbine is operated continuously in poor air condition, fouling could enter the cooling passage and finally blockage will occurs. Blockage will cause increase the gas turbine heat rate and finally will over heat the wheel space. Over heating will cause serious damage to the gas turbine itself.

  1. Utilize Pre-filter and High Efficiency Filter.
  2. Perform Gas Turbine Compressor periodically either with OFF-LINE or ON-LINE cleaning with gas turbine cleaner (MINCO UK gas turbine cleaner).
  3. Periodical inspection to monitor air quality to identify typical deviation and perform correct preventive action. 
  4. Select correct, durable and economical air filter.
